Tracci Campaign Releases Letter Concerning October 1st Campaign Event on UVA Grounds: Requests Neutral and Fair Consideration
September 28, 2015 -- Charlottesville, VA
In a letter released this morning, the campaign of Albemarle County Commonwealth's Attorney candidate Robert Tracci raised questions about the propriety of a single candidate campaign event scheduled on UVA Grounds on October 1st.
According to the letter, the single candidate event, posted on the UVA Calendar and linked to a Facebook Event Page referring visitors to contact his opponent's campaign manager with any questions or comments, appears to "substantially conflict" with Federal and University policies concerning political events on UVA Grounds.
The letter/email is below.
Dean Dorrie Fontaine
School of Nursing
University of Virginia
Charlottesville, VA 22902
Dear Dean Fontaine,
I recently learned on the UVa Calendar that you were sponsoring, on Grounds and in your capacity as the Dean of the School of Nursing, a campaign event to support the re-election of Albemarle County Commonwealth's Attorney candidate Denise Lunsford. Notice of the event states that snacks and voter registration forms will be provided. http://calendar.virginia.edu/cal/event/showEventMore.rdo
The notice also contains a link to Ms. Lunsford's re-election website and lists her campaign manager as the primary contact. https://www.facebook.com/events/882240545158741/
This event appears to substantially conflict with Federal and University regulations pertaining to political activities.
In order to promote compliance with these regulations, I respectfully request that you provide a neutral forum at which my opponent and I can present our respective visions and priorities for the Office of Albemarle Commonwealth's Attorney.
Please contact me or campaign manager John Darden at email@example.com at your first convenience.
